History of Father's Day:
- Credited with the idea of Father's Day is Sonora Smart Dodd from Spokane Washington, who decided that Fathers should also be honor after hearing a Mother's Day sermon.
- First time Father's Day was celebrated was in June 19, 1910
- Father's Day was supported by President Calvin Coolidge in 1924.
- In 1966, President Lyndon Johnson declared the 3rd Sunday of June as Father's Day with a presidential proclamation.
Observance of Father's Day:
- The official flower of Father's Day is the Rose
- Wear a red rose if your father is living
- Wear a white rose if your father is deceased.
- Family and friends get together for a Picnic on Father's Day or have a special meal together.
- It is customary to give a present to your father and a card.
- It is also acceptable to acknowledge an older male role model with a small present and/or greeting card.
