Create a Time Capsule Birthday Party
On the invitations tell everyone to bring something to place in a time capsule. As part of the party activities, sit in a circle and have each child tell what they plan to be when they grow up and write it down on a list to include in the time capsule. You could also include what they think the world will be like in 20 or 25 years from now. Dig a hole and place the items in sealed plastic container and bury it. Plan to dig it up on your child's birthday 20 or 25 years from now when they are all grown up.
Music Video Birthday Party
Tell everyone on the invitations to come dressed like their favorite singers. Have the birthday boy or girl pick their favorite song and have all the children lip sync the song with some fake microphones. Make sure you have the video camera ready to record the rehearsals and actual video.
That 70s Birthday Party
On the invitations tell everyone to dress up in 1970's outfits or even like their favorite 70's show character. Play old-fashioned games (as suggested here).
Farm Party
On the invitations tell everyone to dress up as farmers or cow-folks. Get several bales of hay for the yard that they can play on and then create a large haystack out of the bales. Hide pennies or wrapped candy in the hay for them to find. You can also get a rope to make a lasso and have the kids attempt to lasso a make believe calf (such as a bale of hay).
